Salisbury, Md. -- The fifth-ranked softball team defeated Capital 8-0 in six innings to improve to 10-1 on the season and extend its winning streak to seven games. Sophomore Carly Myers (Claremont Secondary/Victoria, British Columbia) recorded three strikeouts and allowed just two hits in her second shutout of the season.
The Bombers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first as senior Leigh Bonkowski (The Williams School/Mystic, Conn.) and junior Mel Chinigo (Norwich Free Academy/Norwich, Conn.) recorded one RBI each and sophomore Jessica Stangarone (Brewster/Brewster) singled to drive in two runs. Ithaca added runs in the third and fourth innings and plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-0 final.
Stangarone was two-for-two at the plate with three RBIs and three stolen bases, while Chinigo was three-for-four with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Sophomore Stacy Pelesz (Hudson/Livingston) went two-for-three in the game with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
The Bombers will next take on second-ranked Salisbury at 2 p.m.
